Worldwatch Institute European Director Bo Normander has announced his decision to step down as head of the global research institute’s European office in Copenhagen. As agreed with the Board of Directors, Normander will stay with the organisation in a transition period until the end of 2015 to hand over his responsibilities and duties to a new leadership.

In 2010, Bo Normander took the initiative to found Worldwatch Institute Europe and he has been the daily manager since the beginning.

“With several new projects beginning, increasing recognition of the organisation’s work in the fields of circular economy and urban sustainability, and a talented and dedicated team to keep up the good work, I feel that this is the right moment to make this transition,” Normander said.

He will serve as the Executive Director until November 30 and the Board has already begun a search for a new director.

“It has been five fantastic years since the birth of Worldwatch Europe, with many great experiences, successes, ups and downs and I'm very grateful to the whole Worldwatch family for giving me this opportunity to work with so talented people on so many important issues,” Normander said.

Lately, the Circular Economy stakeholder engagement project, full-house annual launches of the State of the World reports in Copenhagen and Stockholm, and the Urban Biodiversity (URBIA) awards competition have been among Worldwatch Europe’s most significant and respected achievements.

Founded by Lester Brown more than 40 years ago, the Worldwatch Institute applies research, analysis, storytelling, and outreach to inform and inspire a shift to a sustainable global civilisation that meets human needs.
